With winter just around the corner, I am eager to craft one of my favorite seasonal house staples—foaming hand soap! Crafting custom scented soaps to match the seasons is one of my most beloved pastimes, as it's an easy and fast way to bring seasonal cheer to my home.
I love the aromas of evergreens during winter, but sometimes tree scents can be overpowering in blends. For this reason, I opted to work with myrtle. It's lighter and has a little more of an herbaceous note to it. I then added one of my trusted aromatic allies, benzoin resin oil, for its sweet vanilla-like tones. I enjoy the simplicity of this two-scented blend--sometimes less is more. Let's get to it!
Homemade Foaming Hand Soap Recipe for Winter
Makes about 4 oz.
- 20 drops of organic myrtle essential oil
- 25 drops organic benzoin resin oil
- 4 oz liquid Castile soap
- 1 to 2 tsp. of carrier oil of choice (optional)
Directions
- Add all ingredients to foaming pump bottle.
- Shake well.
- Label with blend and enjoy!
Pro Tips
- A foaming pump bottle is required to create the foam. You can use this recipe without this type of bottle if the foam isn't important to you.
- I made this soap in a small batch so you can easily scale based on your size bottle.
- If Castile is too drying for you, you can add an oil to help soften the blend. This is optional.
- Some foaming hand soap recipes will add water to dilute the soap. I prefer not to do this as it significantly reduces the shelf life.
