Pedaling Towards a Greener Future

Bike Commuting

Spring is in full bloom, and there’s no better time to tune up your bike, tighten your laces, or get your bus pass than in May – because May is bike Month! Here in Eugene, your vibrant city comes alive with the spirit of cycling, thanks to the fantastic efforts of the City of Eugene Transportation and their regional partners. From free rides to exciting events, and engaging classes, Bike Month is a celebration of all things cycling, designed to showcase the many benefits of biking and to encourage everyone to join in the fun.

Bike Month is more than just a series of events – it’s a movement aimed at promoting the joys and benefits of biking. Whether you’re an experienced cyclist or a beginner. Bike Month has something for everyone. Imagine breezing through the city, feeling the wind on your face, all while contributing to a healthier environment. Biking helps you stay active, reduces traffic congestion, and cuts down on pollution. Plus, it’s an excellent way to explore the outdoors and discover new parts of the city.

We all know that excessive automobile usage has dire environmental consequences. It relies heavily on non–renewable resources and significantly contributes to greenhouse gas emissions and global climate change. At Mountain Rose Herbs, we believe in nurturing our planet and our community, and one way we do this is through our Alternative Commute Program. This program is designed to incentivize sustainable commuting options for our employees, offering compensation for those who choose to carpool, ride the bus, bike, or walk to work.

How It Works:

  • Carpooling or Bus Riding: Employees earn $0.25 per mile.
  • Biking or Walking: Employees earn $0.35 per mile.

By incentivizing our employees to opt for sustainable commute options, we not only reduce our collective carbon footprint but also foster a culture of environmental stewardship. But that’s not all! Each year, we celebrate the employee who logs the most miles in each category with an additional $250 reward. To support our biking enthusiasts, we provide access to a covered and locked bike depot, indoor lockers, showers, and even a bicycle repair kit. These amenities not only make biking to work easier but also more enjoyable.

This Bike Month, we invite you to join us in embracing the joys of cycling. Let’s pedal towards a greener future together. Dust off your bike, gather your friends and family, and explore the beauty of your town on two wheels. Who knows? You might discover a new favorite route or make new friends along the way. Remember, every mile biked, walked, or shared is a step towards a healthier planet. Together, we can make a difference – one pedal at a time!
