Mountain Rose Herbs Celebrates Women in Leadership

Women In Leadership-Cameron Merc

Each year, the National Women’s History Alliance chooses a theme for Women’s History Month (March). This year’s theme is “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future" which aims to celebrate women who have or who are leading sustainability efforts through environmental, economic, educational, and social justice movements.

As a woman-led company, we thought this was the perfect opportunity to highlight the woman at the helm. Mountain Rose Herbs’ Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer, Cameron Stearns, brings passion, education, and expertise to our mission-driven business model through organized, collaborative, and strategic action. Under her leadership, we have witnessed waves of positive change, not only for our company but also for the herbal product industry.

In addition to her day-to-day decision making for Mountain Rose Herbs, Cameron also serves as a Core Member of One Step Closer, an organization of C-Suite executives within the natural products space who work together towards improved sustainability and social justice within the industry. Cameron is also responsible for Mountain Rose Herbs’ involvement with the Purpose Pledge, a group of sustainability trailblazers like Dr. Bronner Soap Company and Yerba Madre, who are collectively dedicated to improving 10 areas of focus. These include product quality, purpose-led governance, supply web integrity, fair compensation, living wage, inclusion, community engagement, climate action, zero waste, and capability building. As one of the pilot businesses in the program, Cameron helped craft and refine the requirements, and now that it has officially launched, has made the 9-year commitment to improving in each of the 10 areas.

Through right relationship with people, plants, and the planet, Cameron’s vision and leadership allow us to stay true to our values while always looking towards a more sustainable future. From increased sourcing from organic US farmers and wildcrafters, growing our line of Regenerative Organic and FairWild Certified offerings, and community support initiatives, she is the pinnacle of what we celebrate this March—women shaping the sustainability movement through environmental protection, responsible economics, education, and social justice. From the farmers in the fields to the person calling upon our offerings for their wellness, each is seen as an equally important stakeholder for whom each decision is made.

This month, we urge you to celebrate women like Cameron who are helping to shape a sustainable future within the natural products industry and beyond.
