Chai Spice Whipped Body Scrub

Shower time is sacred to me. These precious moments wash away the physical grime of the day and offer an emotional reprieve from just about anything that is going on in my life. The act of bathing has long been known as a ritualistic expression of self-care. It is a time to slow down, to inspect your skin, and to give it the attention it needs. It’s a time with little to no distraction and where you can envelop yourself in the warmth and comfort of flowing water. It’s truly a meditative practice and is a key reason that DIY skin care is one of my favorite things.

I love calling upon soothing aromas and plant energetics and incorporating them into my natural skincare knowledge. For this formulation, I used a base recipe from one of my favorite body butters and then made some slight adjustments to turn it into a whipped body scrub. I was aiming for a scrub formulated for the colder weather months, so I included warming spices, skin-loving oils and butters, and an exfoliant.

When using this recipe, you’ll find that it works amazingly to remove dull and dead skin layers while also encouraging circulation. In its wake, you will find bright, supple skin and warm and cozy sentiments. Happy Self-Care Time!

Warming Whipped Body Scrub
Makes about 1 cup of body scrub.

Ingredients

Directions:

  1. Combine oil, mango butter, vegetable glycerin, and herbal powders in a double boiler over simmering water.
  2. Leave on heat until all ingredients are melted together.
  3. Remove from heat, allow to cool for about 3 minutes, and add essential oils and vitamin E oil.
  4. Allow to cool to room temperature and place in freezer for 20-30 minutes, or until it’s mostly solid.
  5. Remove from freezer and whip with a hand immersion blender. Once you have a nice fluffy texture, shut off immersion blender and add salt.
  6. Use a fork to incorporate the salt.
  7. Spoon mixture into glass jars and label with the name of recipe, ingredients, and date made.
  8. Use within 3 months.

Pro Tips

  • Like all body care recipes, you can make this recipe your own. I love almond oil for its skin-loving properties and its saponifying action, but you can swap that for an oil of your choosing. You can also swap the salt for sugar if you prefer.
  • The essential oils really help to strengthen the aromatics of this recipe.

Other Uses for This Recipe

  • Kitchen Hand Scrub- It’s great at removing tacky and stinky resins like garlic.
  • Bathroom Hand Scrub- I like this recipe for cleaning very dirty or tacky hands. It works to remove tree resins.
  • Sticker Glue Remover: If you know anything about me, you know I love multipurpose things! I have used this to remove sticker glue when upcycling jars.
  • Pre-Shave Scrub: This makes a delightful scrub before taking a razor to your skin. As a person prone to razor burn, I have found that this hydrating scrub helps to create a slick surface to glide across your skin. This helps prevent irritation, which can lead to razor burn.
