Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to visit the Tilth Alliance community garden and classroom in Seattle. This visit was more than just a work trip — it was a chance to deepen our roots in Washington, expand our reach, and build lasting connections with a community that shares our passion for sustainable and regenerative agriculture.
Tilth Alliance, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, was founded in 2016 from the merger of Tilth Producers, Cascade Harvest Coalition, and Seattle Tilth. With over 90 years of combined experience, the Tilth Alliance works with farmers, gardeners, schools and community members to build a sustainable, healthy, and equitable food future. From the moment I stepped into the garden, I could feel the legacy of dedication to sustainable practices that have been nurtured here for decades.
The Tilth Alliance is not just about growing food; it’s about cultivating knowledge. I was inspired by the garden's diverse plantings, from heirloom vegetables to native pollinator plants, which serve as living lessons in organic farming, soil health, and climate resilience. The classroom sessions are equally enriching, offering hands-on workshops that cover everything from composting to seed saving.
My visit wasn’t just about observing; it was about engaging. I had the chance to meet with the passionate community garden director of Tilth Alliance, who is dedicated to empowering local communities through education and resources. We discussed ways Mountain Rose Herbs can support their efforts, from supplying organic seeds and herbs to co-hosting workshops that focus on the benefits of herbalism and sustainable agriculture.
This visit marks a significant step in our mission to expand Mountain Rose Herbs' presence in Washington. By partnering with organizations like Tilth Alliance, we’re able to share our commitment to sustainability and regenerative practices with a broader audience. We’re excited to explore opportunities for collaboration, including sponsoring the Tilth Alliance’s 50th Anniversary Conference in November!
As I left the community garden, I felt a renewed sense of purpose and excitement for the work ahead. Her sustainability journey began after completing an International Business program and studying abroad in South America, where she became inspired to learn more about equitable practices for regenerative living. In 2016, Ashley moved to Portland, Oregon where she completed a Master’s Degree in Sustainability Leadership and worked for several nonprofit organizations. After living in Portland for seven years, she left the busy city and moved to Eugene to deepen her connection with the land.
