Hemp Milk Recipe + Chocolate and Strawberry Flavor Variations

Written by Mason | March 23, 2021

Whether you are lactose intolerant or not, learning to make different non-dairy “milks” is a fun way to vary up the nutrients you’re getting in your diet. For instance, hemp seeds contain magnesium and a host of other minerals, as well as a nice profile of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids. Out of all the nut milks I’ve tried, hemp milk is easily my favorite. It’s got an unparalleled nuttiness that I enjoy quite a bit. I’d be remiss if I didn’t also mention the sustainability of hemp production. Hemp production requires less water than dairy farming, is beneficial to the soil, and can be easily grown organically.

I’m also a modern hippy dad looking to recreate certain childhood flavors to introduce to my kiddo with a crunchier twist, so it’s fun to attempt these recipes with a more “natural” and “organic” flair.  Most store-bought strawberry milk doesn’t even contain strawberries, what an outrage! I give to you my interpretation of a chocolate milk and a strawberry milk. There’s also a plain hemp milk recipe below. Try substituting this for creamer in your coffee! How do you enjoy hemp milk? Let us know in the comments below.

Strawberry Hemp Milk Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups chopped organic strawberries
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup raw local honey
  • 3 cups organic hemp milk (recipe above)

Directions

  1. In a pot, combine strawberries, water, and honey.
  2. Turn on to medium high, bring to a boil, then bring it down to medium and simmer for 20 minutes. Be sure to stir, mash, and break up strawberries. A potato masher and wooden spoon work well for this. Leave uncovered the whole time so that the liquid reduces.
  3. After 20 minutes, the strawberries should be a mushy-syrupy texture. Take a strainer and pour and mash the strawberry mixture through. Let it drain as much as possible. The leftover pulp makes a great spread for toast!
  4. Pour strawberry syrup and hemp milk into a jar. Shake vigorously until combined.
  5. Store in a fridge and enjoy within four to five days.
