Zero-Waste Homemade Herbal Baby Wipes

Written by Miriam | June 13, 2018

Once I reached a certain age, it seemed that the majority of my friends started having children. This exciting and pivotal time of life is often also overwhelming for new parents. Between lack of sleep and the responsibility of caring for a tiny human, most new parents need a little extra self care support from their friends and family. I love to give the gift of time—whipping up a favorite nourishing dinner recipe, helping with the (seemingly never-ending) laundry, or watching their little one so the parents can get some sweet, uninterrupted sleep.

It’s also wonderful to give natural and organic baby care gifts! For many parents, the birth of a child is a time to rethink the foods and products they consume and move towards more sustainable and healthful offerings. I love to make this homemade herbal baby wipe spray recipe and gift it along with some reusable cloth wipes, Baby’s Balm, and Botanical Baby Powder. This recipe was created by our Products Manager, Christine, for her little one, and it's been such a hit with other moms who've tried it, we thought we'd share it for our blog readers as well!

Homemade Organic Herbal Baby Wipes

Whether you are making these for your baby or new parents in your life, DIY herbal baby wipes are quick and easy to make, are gentle for baby’s delicate skin, reduce waste, and cost less than disposable wipes. This recipe fits into a 16 ounce bottle and can be stored in glass or plastic screw top containers.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. Mix ingredients in a glass measuring cup with pour spout.
  2. Pour into a 16-ounce bottle using a stainless steel funnel.
  3. To use, decant a portion of your wipe spray blend into a 1- or 2-ounce bottle with mister.
  4. Spritz on a cloth wipe before use, or directly on baby’s bum if needed.
  5. Refrigerate extra wipe solution for later use.

Pro Tips:

  • When mixing ingredients, add distilled water before the castille soap to avoid over-sudsing of your wipe solution.
  • Although it might be tempting to make larger batches of the wipe solution, smaller batches are best, as there are no preservatives in this blend.
  • Wipe solution will keep in the refrigerator for about three to four weeks, although you will probably go through it much more quickly!
  • Use old T-Shirts, flannel sheets, receiving blankets, baby washcloths, or outgrown onesies to cut into cloth wipes.
