When it comes to lip balm, I’m a girl who likes to have options. Different aromas and hydration levels enhance my self-care in different ways. When I am going camping or will be spending a lot of time in the sun, I reach for a summer lip gloss recipe that gives me light coverage, but won’t melt in the sun. When I’m still feeling the summer vibes but want some more hydration than the gloss can offer, I craft ones that are more hydrating and that have longer staying power.
This summer, I’m all about this floral lip balm recipe. Here in Central Oregon, we have many local lavender farmers so hints of lavender aroma can be experienced simply driving down the road. That is to say including lavender in this recipe was easily my first pick as the star of the show. I then opted for cedarwood for my base note. Its sweet and balsamic-like undertones blend beautifully with the lavender and this oil helps the overall aroma last longer. I completed the blend with a little pop of ylang ylang for depth and additional sweetness.
Once I had my aroma blend, I wanted to work on the hydration coverage. This time of year, I like lighter to medium hydration for my balms, so I adjusted my shea butter and wax accordingly. The result is a softening and hydrating balm with smooth texture and divine aroma.
Makes about 8-9 tubes.
