Nature is a powerful ally when it comes to our health and wellness. She is a vibrant living entity deserving of our respect and protection. That's why we're proud to partner with Cascadia Wildlands, an active force among environmental conservation nonprofits working to protect wild ecosystems in the Pacific Northwest. Together, we share a vision of restored old-growth forests, rivers full of wild salmon, flourishing wolf populations, and communities enriched by biodiversity and sustainable practices within the Cascadian bioregion.
The Cascadian Bioregion: Land Worth Protecting
Stretching from northern California to central Alaska, the Cascadian bioregion is a breathtaking landscape, home to rare and indigenous species that make it an unparalleled place to live. Its old-growth forests and pristine rivers are not only vital to the ecosystem but also hold medicinal, cultural, and recreational value. Unfortunately, these natural wonders face constant threats from unsustainable logging practices, climate change, and other environmental pressures. This is where Cascadia Wildlands steps in, and where our support becomes crucial.
Field Checking Basecamp: Hands-On Conservation
Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a Field Checking event hosted by Cascadia Wildlands in the Willamette National Forest. This immersive experience represents the heart of their conservation efforts to defend forests and protect wildlife. Field Checking involves exploring and documenting areas proposed for timber sales on public lands managed by the U.S. Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). By monitoring timber sales, Cascadia Wildlands ensures that the voices of those who cherish these lands are heard, and that the health of these ecosystems is considered in decision-making processes.
Why This Work Matters
Field Checking isn't just about data collection; it's about education, connection, and empowerment. Throughout the day, we learned to identify native trees and plants (such as Douglas fir, vine maple, wild yarrow, and trillium), understand the ecological significance of the forest, and build relationships with other community members passionate about environmental conservation. This grassroots approach helps cultivate a network of informed and motivated individuals who can advocate for the protection and restoration of the ecosystems we all depend on.
By supporting the work of Cascadia Wildlands, Mountain Rose Herbs is investing in a sustainable future where the natural world can thrive. We are honored to contribute to environmental stewardship efforts and we invite you to join us in supporting this vital cause by supporting your own local nonprofit organizations. Together, we can protect the wild ecosystems that sustain us all.
