Mountain Rose Restoration Project with Friends of Trees

Written by Ashley | May 1, 2024

We are thrilled to launch the very first Mountain Rose Restoration Project of the year, and what better day than Earth Day? On Monday, April 22nd, we partnered with Friends of Trees, a local nonprofit organization, to coordinate the largest Mountain Rose Restoration Project, yet!

The event kicked off with educational talks led by Mountain Rose staff, where we delved into topics ranging from environmental stewardship, community collaboration, and the importance of native plants. After buzzing with information, it was time to roll up our sleeves and get our hands dirty. We split up into groups, equipped with gardening tools and determination, ready to tackle the task at hand–cleaning up the land and preparing for tree-planting in the fall!

As we ventured into restoration activities, we took deliberate steps to honor the Indigenous peoples who stewarded this land for millennia. Clearing invasive species like rhizomatous grass and Himalayan blackberry was not merely just a task but a way to support balance for the land. We brought awareness to the protection of culturally significant native plants such as camas, highlighting our commitment to restoring not only the land but also restoring relationships.

Throughout the day, the ethos of making a positive impact on the environment and giving back to the community set the vibe high. Cameron Stearns, CEO of Mountain Rose Herbs, highlighted the importance of corporate responsibility by stating, “It’s really important that we provide a service to the community; that we leave no trace so to speak and we leave everything around us in a better space than it was when we started. We’re going to reduce our productivity today so that we can pivot and allow employees the time to help out the environment.”

Every step we take towards restoration is a step towards a more sustainable and equitable future. By protecting the land, engaging in meaningful stewardship, and fostering community involvement, we strive to make a positive impact that resonates far beyond Earth Day. As we look ahead to our next restoration project, we invite you to join us on this path of sustainability and collaboration. Together, we can sow the seeds of a balanced future–one project at time!
