The 30th annual Mushroom Festival at Mount Pisgah Arboretum was fresh pressed apple cider, gymnastic scarecrows, hot chanterelle soup, live jazz, fall leaves, laughing friends, babies in bee costumes, lichens aglow, and a rainbow of fungi (and fungi lovers) from the Pacific Northwest. We gathered around crowded tables to study slime molds and polypores and puffballs - admiring giant cauliflower mushrooms, golden chanterelles, and morels with growling bellies.
Our love of mushrooms extends even beyond sautéed shiitakes and chaga tea. In festive fashion, our dear Krissy from Mountain Rose Herbs created a stunning necklace using whole reishi mushrooms. This special accessory was adored by the mushroom loving masses. I think she may have started a hot new trend here in Eugene!
