Warming Fall Drink: Golden Milk Latte with Rose

The first chilly winds of fall have reached western Oregon, signaling the hottest days of summer are coming to an end. With the change in season upon us, I am looking for ways to cozy up, nest in, and find warmth. One of my favorite fall practices is the process of making hot herbal drinks on the stove. I enjoy the time of stirring my colorful herbs and thinking about all of the wonderful ways they support my wellness as they dance around the pot. Luckily, Mountain Rose Herbs recently released their newest tea blend just in time for fall. With a warm, rooty aroma and a smooth but gently spicy flavor, the new Golden Milk Tea is the perfect addition to my want of all things warm and cozy.

Golden milk, or Haldi Doodh, as it is known in India, is a turmeric-based tea used in the Ayurvedic tradition. Originally made from a combination of cow’s milk, turmeric, black pepper, and oil, this drink has evolved over time and place to include other healthful spices. While many golden milk blends on the market are powdered herbal blends, Mountain Rose Herbs has created a beautiful loose-leaf blend of traditional spices—turmeric and black pepper—with the welcome addition of ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, coconut, and most interestingly, pink rose petals. The rose petals add a delicate, floral note above the warm and spicy flavors normally associated with golden milk.

I enjoy drinking this Golden Milk Tea in the evening or as an on-the-go daytime beverage. It is incredibly versatile and can be brewed in either milk or water and best of all, there is no sediment residue at the bottom of your cup from a traditional powder mix. I hope this hot herbal beverage brings you warmth and comfort through autumn and winter.

Golden Milk Latte Recipe

Makes about 2 cups.

Ingredients


Directions

  1. Add milk of choice and golden milk tea to a saucepan and bring to a simmer.
  2. Simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Take off heat and add in maple syrup to taste.
  4. Strain golden milk into a mug and serve hot.

Pro Tips

  • If you are using a non-dairy milk, I would suggest adding 1/2 tsp. coconut oil to help with the bioavailability of the herbal ingredients.
  • If you don’t like milk, you can brew 1 Tbsp. Golden Milk Tea with water in a tea bag or tea infuser. Pour 8 ounces of boiling water over the tea and allow to steep for 3-5 minutes or until desired strength is reached.
